The prevalence of obesity in the United States in 2017/2018 as stated by the CDC was 42.4%. The prevalence is higher in African American and Hispanic people. Obesity can lead to health complications, chronic diseases, and a decreased quality of life. However, losing weight can be difficult, frustrating, and confusing. At our Gastro SB ( weight loss clinic ), we make weight loss easy with the team effort of our Gastroenterologist , Registered Dietitian, Nurses, and Physician Assistants. A couple more benefits of coming to our weight loss clinic are:
o Being overweight / obese puts people at greater risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, cholesterol, and even colon cancer . Being overweight or obese can not only increase our risk of chronic diseases, it can also affect our quality of life and interfere with our mental health and self-esteem. At our weight loss clinic, we want to help our patients feel safe, manage their pre-existing health conditions, and prevent future health complications by following a healthy eating plan.
o One of the advantages of attending our clinic is our bilingual staff. We can better serve and meet the needs of our patients by having a bilingual staff in Spanish and English. This is critical because we are located in Chula Vista, Ca, where more than half of the population is Hispanic or Latino. Additionally, our weight loss clinic is also geographically located near the Mexican border.
o One formula does not fit all. A plan that helped your friend may not help you. We are built differently and we have different needs. By going to our weight loss clinic you will be receiving a plan prepared for you based on your needs which will be evaluated by our Gastroenterologist specialized in various gastrointestinal symptoms and a registered dietitian.
o All meal plans given to our patients are made by San Diego Registered Dietitians . These plans are sustainable and are made to ensure the nutritional needs of the patient are met while losing weight. Patients who follow our plans benefit from weight loss, better health, and better energy levels
o Weight loss can be complicated and confusing if we rely solely on a scale. It is normal for our weight to fluctuate. Our body weight is made up of our body fat mass, lean body mass (muscles, organs, bones), and water. When we lose weight we want to make sure we are losing the correct type of weight * body fat * not lean body mass or water. There are times when the weight on the scale can drop, while it can be exciting at first, it can become frustrating when we get it back up the next day. This happens because you have most likely lost water weight rather than body fat weight. At our weight loss clinic, you can choose to track your lean body mass, body fat, and water weight with our InBody machine.
o Our weight can fluctuate for many reasons, such as those listed above. In fact, most “diets” found online that claim to lose a significant amount of weight in a short period of time cause water weight loss. Unfortunately, once you stop these “diets”, you regain your previous weight because it was not loss of body fat. These diets are called “yo-yo” diets for that reason and are not recommended by any registered dietitian. At our weight loss clinic, you will receive tools like a sustainable eating plan to help you lose weight from body fat. You will also be supported by guidance from our Registered Dietitian for weight loss and maintenance.
